The following feedback was received as part of the community engagement stage by My Cowdenbeath on the Draft Local Place Plan for Cowdenbeath, which was open for public comments from 19th January til 23rd February 2026.
Comments were received in one centralised mailbox, with local residents invited to email feedback@mycowdenbeath.scot with views and comments.
The plan was circulated to all local elected members, including Ward 7 Fife Councillors, Melanie Ward MP, Annabelle Ewing MSP, Cowdenbeath Community Council and other stakeholders in compliance with the requirements for the Information Notice.
Written feedback sent into the mailbox, and verbal feedback received from individuals during the community council Q&A, and received in conversations with My Cowdenbeath during the feedback period, indicated two areas where changes to the Draft Local Place Plan could be made:
a) the addition of the World War 1 memorial at North End Hill being added as a protected asset for future generations. This was accepted and added in the final plan.
b) the proposals for Eastern Expansion to aide accessibility of neighbourhoods around Factory Road and Union Street was split into two distinct proposals. This was adjusted in the final plan.
During the final drafting of this Local Place Plan, the town received the shocking news of the planned closure of the Exxon Mossmorran site. It was therefore discussed and agreed to add a proposal around the future use of this site, following feedback received from the community during December 2025 in response to the announcement.
