An action plan to spearhead a number of improvements across Cowdenbeath has been launched following extensive public consultation over more than 18 months.
The Cowdenbeath Community Action Plan 2025-30 is the final element of a ‘masterplan’ compiled from over 3,000 comments, ideas and suggestions gathered by the development group My Cowdenbeath CIC.
The Action Plan is now available to pick up from Cowdenbeath Library or to download here.
Stuart Duffy, who compiled the report after the group conducted a community survey and information events in 2024-25, said it’s been fantastic to see how passionate locals are about improving where they live.
“The Community Action Plan has a number of small projects and initiatives that we think could be achieved with a joint effort between community groups over the next few years to bring about meaningful improvments in the town. These are split over 4 distinct themes which were the main priorities in the consultation phase and were voted for by local people, with more than 600 votes received.
“Our aim now is to pull together a working group to take forward some of these projects, with local people and community groups at the heart of the action! More details will follow over the summer and we hope to have the first meeting around September.”

Initiatives which came out top in the public vote included better street lighting and CCTV around the town centre and in local parks for s safer nighttime feel, improved youth provision to help tackle anti-social behaviour, more events to bring people together in the town square, a stock car parking plan, a community clean-up crew and investment in the Public Park.
The Community Action Plan replaces a previous plan compiled by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust between 2019 and 2024.
Earlier in the year, the group published the town’s first Local Place Plan, which details ideas for the protection and development of land over the long term in Cowdenbeath and can be read here: bit.ly/CBLPP
Anyone who’d like to show interest in joining the steering group is invited to email their details to feedback@mycowdenbeath.scot to be kept up to date on the first meeting in September.
